After decades of adventure and hard work, Gert and Martie Koegelenberg have returned to their roots in Namaqualand, Northern Cape, South Africa. Their diverse talents make them a formidable team as they breathe new life into the Kamieskroon Hotel.
Martie
Martie, a visionary artist, discovered her talent for fine arts during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the creation of Genade Kuns. A former politician for over 15 years, she now channels her creativity into the hotel, where visitors can experience her artistry and savour her exceptional cuisine.
Gert
Gert, whose family hails from the farms Rietkloof and Augabees near Kamieskroon, has always been drawn to adventure. A natural explorer, he has traversed the Richtersveld and West Coast, worked as a commercial diver and skipper on the West Coast, and soared as an accomplished private pilot across Southern Africa. His mastery of practical craftsmanship and deep connection to nature are reflected in his understanding of natural medicine and passion for breadmaking. His experience in aviation has given him a unique perspective on the vast landscapes of Namaqualand, further fuelling his appreciation for its untouched beauty.

Their adventures extend beyond South Africa, having travelled extensively across Europe, Asia, South America and Central Africa, immersing themselves in diverse cultures, landscapes, and culinary experiences. These travels have deepened their appreciation for hospitality and broadened their creative vision, influences that now shape their work at the Kamieskroon Hotel.
Beyond their individual talents, Gert and Martie have extensive experience in hospitality. For 16 years, they successfully ran Caledon Grace Guesthouse, transforming a derelict homestead in Caledon into a thriving establishment before recently selling it. Additionally, they have owned and operated multiple restaurants and have catered for numerous weddings and events, bringing their passion for hospitality and culinary excellence to countless guests.
Together, Gert & Martie are transforming the historic Kamieskroon Hotel into more than just a place to stay. Their vision celebrates the region’s heritage, culture, and hospitality, ensuring an authentic experience for every visitor. This journey is more than a homecoming – it is their legacy.
